Always check the reduced price area, which usually has produce with a single bump or bruise that can easily be cut off. But only buy produce if you plan to use right away for a smoothie or pie! Else, clean, peal and freeze for later use.

Always check your fridge after your enter your kitchen; be it for planning the weekly meal, daily meal or just grabbing a snack. Take the time to move things around in the refrigerator and scour the cabinets to see what you have on hand. You might be surprised to find a packet of carrots when your were looking for a dip to go with your tacos; Or may be canned salmon, jar of pinto beans, a half-used bag of coffee. Instead of buying these items again or letting them go to waste, incorporate them into the coming week’s menu.

When quality and nutrient content matters, don’t be shy on your wallet. Find a few real ingredients hand chosen for their quality and deliciously nourishing for the soul, like Almond Butter, Honey, Dark Chocolate and more. Buying good quality would certainly stretch your budget but they are truly worth it.

Swap pricey Whey protein powder with Tofu



Tofu sometimes gets a bad rap due to its mushy texture and bland taste, but swapping it with expensive whey protein powder could save you quite a few dollars. As a healthy, hunger-fighting protein source, tofu can blend right into your smoothies, but for a fraction of the price.

Swap pricey Vegetable chips with Kale chips



As a salty snack, homemade kale chips are a great swap to expensive veggie chips. And at less than 50 calories per cup, they’re just a fraction of the calories as the store-bought stuff. While they do require some prep work, kale chips are incredibly easy to make. Just spray washed kale with cooking spray, season with sea salt, and bake at 350° for about 15 minutes. They taste just like potato chips!

Swap pricey fresh Berries with frozen Berries



Fresh berries are often very expensive, especially when they are out of season. Frozen berries cost much less and they’re just as nutritious for you. Plus, with frozen berries, you don’t have to worry about eating them before they go bad.

“Healthy eating is expensive” is nothing more than a myth or excuse. If you plan ahead and properly and follow some simple swaps, you can make healthy food choices, that are affordable and cut calories too.
